Over But Not Out

Secrets Are Rarely Secret for Long We knew this day would come.  Whatever the form, we four editors, the close contributors, the many commentors and the legions of the just-plain curious – we all knew that eventually there would be something that felt like an end. Except, once again, this case has defied our expectations.  Once again, we have...

Radio Silence

Where We’re At, And What May Come Many have asked us of late for any news of a settlement in the case, or even if any settlement has actually been reached. While we have nothing new we can share, we will note this: it’s been six weeks since there was any filing whatsoever in the case. ...

The Civil Trial That May Never Be We’ve heard from a source that a settlement has been reached in the civil trial between Kathy Wone & family, and defendants Joe Price, Victor Zaborsky and Dylan Ward. We’re trying to confirm this with the case principals. This tip comes just one day after a private mediation session held with retired Judge...

If…

If…

What If We’ve Hurt, Not Helped? Of the two questions invariably asked of us over the last two years (the first: ‘Who do you think did it?‘), it was the hardest to answer. ‘What effect do you think you’ve had on the case?’ someone would ask, hopefully teeing up an answer that – however we meant it...

Knowns and Unknowns

What Are We Not Asking That We Should? If there was a list of people you might not expect to turn up on this site, Donald Rumsfeld might be near the top. We expect he would be just as surprised to pop up here as well. But the former Secretary of Defense, now author, is back...

The Philadelphia Story

When Is A Cold Case “Cold”? It’s been more than four years since Robert Wone was found stabbed at 1509 Swann Street on August 2nd, 2006.   Nobody has ever been charged with his murder.   The evidentiary trail has run dry, and despite efforts to the contrary, the greater DC community seems to have grudgingly accepted...

Gray Days

Rhee’s out, Lanier’s in…and Still Working on the Wone Case.   Ask her for help this week. Newly installed mayor Vincent Gray got a somewhat incongruous inaugural gift this week from the man he’s replacing.  Namely: Washington’s homicide rate for 2010 hit its lowest point in four decades. Here’s the numbers reported by the Washington Times: 131...

The Murder Room

Why an Obscure Club May Hold the Key to Solving This Crime You could be forgiven some skepticism when first hearing about the Vidocq Society.  “Cuisine and crime-solving,” reads their home page, going on to explain how the world’s greatest forensic detectives gather monthly at the elegant walnut-lined Down Town Club in Philadelphia – all...

The Defendants Have a Bad Day at Moultrie Here’s your update from Moultrie: Today’s hearing began at 10:20 – a late start due to heavy security in the building. On the defendant’s Motion to Dismiss: motion denied. On the defendant’s Motion to Enjoin – the “gag” order: motion denied. On the plaintiff’s Motion to Compel: agreement has been worked...

Purpose of this Site

On August 2nd, 2006, Washington attorney Robert E. Wone was murdered at 1509 Swann Street. Over two years passed before any criminal charges were filed - and then only conspiracy, obstruction of justice and crime scene tampering charges were brought against the Swann Street housemates, all present in the home on the night of the murder: Joe Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky.

On May 17, 2010, a DC Superior Court trial got underway and all three defendants were all acquitted in that bench trial on those pending charges.

Nearly four years later, very little seems clear about what happened that night and who murdered Robert Wone. A cloud of suspicion remains over the Swann Street defendants who have denied any involvement in the murder of their friend or in the alleged cover up.

Judge Lynn Leibovitz found a moral certainty in their collective guilt, but not evidentiary certainty. Civil proceedings in a wrongful death suit filed by Robert's family is the next chapter in this tragic story.

We continue to work together seeking answers to the mystery of Robert Wone's murder and in finding justice for his memory and legacy.
