I recently ran across this Chinese proverb, “Society prepares the crime, criminals commit it,” and in light of the fact that Robert Wone was Chinese-American, I could not help but think that this proverb sheds light on his murder.
More on this proverb later.
Whatever! I am Chinese and have never heard of this proverb. This was a vile and despicable murder and doesn’t need to be blamed on society. All three criminals were rich, privileged, educated white boys- not a group of poor, abused crack babies. How you could tie the so-called proverb to Robert Wone’s murder is beyond me!
Anonymous, thanks for your comment. I didn’t read the proverb the way you did. I am sorry if it offended you. I did not intend it that way. I completely agree this was vile and despicable murder.
The way I read it was that society who allowed for a situation to develop — the polygamous family relationship of the three roommates, to which many people knew about, and many thought it was OK because “long term gay relationships are like that,” yet in some ways was, according to the evidence, out of control. This prepared a situation where a murder AND a cover up could happen.
The difference is that criminals are necessary for the crime to happen. Many polygamous situations do not end up in murder, but this one did. Why?
