Legacy

Born From Tragedy Three years ago yesterday, Robert Wone was laid to rest, but his good works live on through a number of service awards, fellowships and trusts.  The Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s Educational Fund (AEF) recently announced their 2009 fellowship winners: “In 2009, AEF awarded over $25,000 in fellowships and grants to law students that...

A Sign of the Times

Nowhere To Go But Up The news stories pulled from the archives to mark Robert’s murder three years ago this week are pretty depressing.  We saw the hazy details of the crime leaking out, the defendants’ narratives take shape, and many testimonials on Robert’s life.  The magnitude of the loss began to emerge. Deep in the archives, however, is...

"We're Out Looking…"

Let’s All Be Careful Out There. UPDATE: MPD Chief of Police Cathy Lanier postpones “Ask the Chief” program on WTOP. At the time of Robert’s murder, Charles Ramsey was in his eighth and final year as MPD Chief of Police.  His tenure was certainly full – the Sept. 11th attacks, the Chandra Levy murder, the...

The Front Page

Dateline: Swann Street Legendary muckraker and irritant I.F. Stone is credited with this critique of the Washington Post: “It’s a great newspaper.  You never know on what page you’ll find a front-page story.” On August 4, 2006 they got it right; news of Robert’s murder was front-page of the Metro section.  This is where we first...

The Zodiac Filler

The Fault, Dear Brutus, is Not in our Stars… It wouldn’t be until Friday, August 4th 2006, that the Washington Post had a news story on Robert’s murder.  While no clues can be garnered from earlier editions of the paper, there is no shortage of context. The Post’s headlines of August 2, 2006, the day of the murder...

The Day After

145 Words Very little was known about Robert’s murder when the first news item was filed, 17 hours later by WTOP, DC’s all news radio station. To be more specific, very little was known by those not in the house at the time of Robert’s slaying.  Other details would emerge in the weeks, months and...

Roby Chavez  of WTTG-TV Fox 5 shares this statement he received from Ben Razi, Kathy Wone’s Attorney tonight. “My husband, Robert, was a beautiful, loving person who was murdered in the prime of his life three years ago today. From the beginning, those who victimized Robert — and his family — have sought to cover-up and...

August 2, 2006

It All Ended and Began Here… An early voice in the call for justice for Robert Wone was Judy Tseng. To mark this sad anniversary we republish her January 2007 post that detailed Robert’s last day.  There’s little we can add. “The last morning of his life, on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, Wone left his townhome in...

Purpose of this Site

On August 2nd, 2006, Washington attorney Robert E. Wone was murdered at 1509 Swann Street. Over two years passed before any criminal charges were filed - and then only conspiracy, obstruction of justice and crime scene tampering charges were brought against the Swann Street housemates, all present in the home on the night of the murder: Joe Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky.

On May 17, 2010, a DC Superior Court trial got underway and all three defendants were all acquitted in that bench trial on those pending charges.

Nearly four years later, very little seems clear about what happened that night and who murdered Robert Wone. A cloud of suspicion remains over the Swann Street defendants who have denied any involvement in the murder of their friend or in the alleged cover up.

Judge Lynn Leibovitz found a moral certainty in their collective guilt, but not evidentiary certainty. Civil proceedings in a wrongful death suit filed by Robert's family is the next chapter in this tragic story.

We continue to work together seeking answers to the mystery of Robert Wone's murder and in finding justice for his memory and legacy.
