The Philadelphia Story

When Is A Cold Case “Cold”? It’s been more than four years since Robert Wone was found stabbed at 1509 Swann Street on August 2nd, 2006.   Nobody has ever been charged with his murder.   The evidentiary trail has run dry, and despite efforts to the contrary, the greater DC community seems to have grudgingly accepted...

The Third Degree: Ward

Ward’s Transcript: Good Cop, Bad Cop…and Homophobe Cop Q: I don’t believe we’re getting the truth here. A: Everyone keeps telling me that. We’ve read transcripts of Joe Price and Victor Zaborsky’s ‘voluntary’ statements to the MPD the night of Robert Wone’s murder.  Now we add 69 more pages to the record with Dylan Ward’s interview with, variously, Sgt....

The Third Degree: Zaborsky

Victor Zaborsky’s MPD Interview Transcript In contrast to the sometimes meandering interview of his domestic partner, Joe Price, Victor Zaborsky seemed to choose his words far more carefully as he spoke to DC MPD detectives on the night of Robert’s murder.  Evidently. Last summer in Paul Duggan’s Washington Post series we got to listen to Zaborsky’s...

The Third Degree: Price

Joe Price’s MPD Interview Transcript “It ain’t going to get fine.  It’s going to get ugly,” Price is told midway through his long night with good cop/bad cop at the Anacostia Violent Crimes Branch. There’s a lot in these 120 pages and still a lot we don’t know.  Were these transcripts from the videotaped part...

Craig's List

Twenty for Twenty-Ten We learned quite a bit over the course of 2009.  Among the highlights: MPD Officer Diane Durham’s end-of-shift statement that contradicted the Trouple’s story on where they discovered Robert; the fact that all three of the housemates either left their places of employment voluntarily or not; a change in judges for the...

Watching The Detectives

Watching The Detectives

Department of Corrections For the past couple of months we’ve occasionally made sport of DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier’s reticence to speak on the record about the Wone murder, repeating her mantra again and again,  “It’s an active investigation.”   It was easy to poke gentle fun at what seemed to be a classic exhibition of bobbing, weaving and remarkable...

Waving the Bloody Shirt

What did Joe Price see that no one else did? Both the Government and defense have retained expert witnesses.   At the September 11 status hearing, the defense talked about the difficulties of coordinating tests with one of theirs in California.  The Government however has hired local; a blood spatter expert from Northern Virginia is on board. ...

The Pelecanos Brief

Truth is Stranger than Fiction On Monday we looked at what effect a newsroom retirement could have on the media coverage of the Wone case.  WUSA-TV’s Gary Reals was certainly working his sources hard early in the investigation. What other retirements may have impacted this case? A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to chat with...

Reap What You Sew

Which of the Defendants Will Be “Auffed”? In the knotted legal tangle that is the Robert Wone case, the following will go down as little more than a drop stitch.  We don’t presume it’s anything else.  But from these few threads we feel there’s something here worth hand finishing. In the September 11th defense motion for...

Purpose of this Site

On August 2nd, 2006, Washington attorney Robert E. Wone was murdered at 1509 Swann Street. Over two years passed before any criminal charges were filed - and then only conspiracy, obstruction of justice and crime scene tampering charges were brought against the Swann Street housemates, all present in the home on the night of the murder: Joe Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky.

On May 17, 2010, a DC Superior Court trial got underway and all three defendants were all acquitted in that bench trial on those pending charges.

Nearly four years later, very little seems clear about what happened that night and who murdered Robert Wone. A cloud of suspicion remains over the Swann Street defendants who have denied any involvement in the murder of their friend or in the alleged cover up.

Judge Lynn Leibovitz found a moral certainty in their collective guilt, but not evidentiary certainty. Civil proceedings in a wrongful death suit filed by Robert's family is the next chapter in this tragic story.

We continue to work together seeking answers to the mystery of Robert Wone's murder and in finding justice for his memory and legacy.
