State of Sleep?

06/06/2010
By David

Could Robert have slept though everything that night? For nearly four years, and especially after the original affidavit was published, the state of mind of the defendants on the night of the murder has been discussed ad nauseum.  The basis for these discussions have been the defendants’ statements made at their home and at the...

Fall Guys

05/09/2010
By Craig

Take the defendants at their word; an unknown person came into their house with the express purpose of murdering Robert. The killer must have had one of only two possible careers, violent home invasion burglar or assassin.  Sure the ninja has been mocked and derided as implausible, but so too, has the defendants’ intruder theory, at least...

Double Edged Sword

Double Edged Sword

The Missing Knife – that says it all, or does it? The knife used to murder Robert Wone is one of the most perplexing pieces of physical evidence in a most bewildering case. The prosecution claims the knife found on the night stand next to Robert’s body was not the weapon used to commit the murder. That knife,...

Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

Why Didn’t Anyone Check On The Third Housemate? And What Of That Bloodstain? It’s been said a crime succeeds or fails within the first 6 minutes.  It’s our collective hope to see this crime fail, which brings us once more to the first moments after Robert’s murder. As previously discussed, there are many things about the...

Waving the Bloody Shirt

What did Joe Price see that no one else did? Both the Government and defense have retained expert witnesses.   At the September 11 status hearing, the defense talked about the difficulties of coordinating tests with one of theirs in California.  The Government however has hired local; a blood spatter expert from Northern Virginia is on board. ...

Search and Seizure… and Snooze

Burying the Lede After the first wave of media coverage hit on August 4th and 5th, the next significant piece was on the 14th by Emma Schwartz of the Legal Times.  And she had the goods - the search warrants for Price’s home, his office and computers at Arent Fox, and his BMW 325. Included is this bombshell:  the crime scene, “had...

Gates Of Hell

About That ‘Intruder Theory’ In the early hours of August 3, 2006, the defendants were subjected to hours of interrogation at the MPD Violent Crime Branch in Anacostia;  a long way from the million dollar plus townhouse on Swann Street. Price for six hours, Zaborsky for eight and Ward sat through a ten hour marathon.  The Post’s...

Do These Steps Reach A Destination?

Do These Steps Reach A Destination?

Lack Of Blood Leads To Conclusions, Not questions In yesterday’s “Towel Boys,” Craig spotlights the inconsistency of evidence found at the scene when matched to defendants’ statements.  Besides a missing towel, he shows the lack of blood found on one of them.  The lack of blood on Robert, on the towels, on the bed sheet, in/on the...

Reading Beatween The Lines

Billable Hours We see some great comments and are grateful for the many contributions.  There’s a little bit of everything: sound analysis, strong opinions, sharp teeth, sass  and the occasional limerick.  But every now and again a comment just jumps off the screen and Bea had one earlier this week. I went back to the affidavit and realized...

Open Mic Night…

Where The Sleuths Come Out And Shine We’ve been meaning to tackle this post for some time, both as a direction we want to take but also in response to a number of reader requests:  An open thread to discuss the many theories offered either here or elsewhere during the past two and a half years.  We’ll aggregate these...

Purpose of this Site

On August 2nd, 2006, Washington attorney Robert E. Wone was murdered at 1509 Swann Street. Over two years passed before any criminal charges were filed - and then only conspiracy, obstruction of justice and crime scene tampering charges were brought against the Swann Street housemates, all present in the home on the night of the murder: Joe Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky.

On May 17, 2010, a DC Superior Court trial got underway and all three defendants were all acquitted in that bench trial on those pending charges.

Nearly four years later, very little seems clear about what happened that night and who murdered Robert Wone. A cloud of suspicion remains over the Swann Street defendants who have denied any involvement in the murder of their friend or in the alleged cover up.

Judge Lynn Leibovitz found a moral certainty in their collective guilt, but not evidentiary certainty. Civil proceedings in a wrongful death suit filed by Robert's family is the next chapter in this tragic story.

We continue to work together seeking answers to the mystery of Robert Wone's murder and in finding justice for his memory and legacy.
