"…Win, Lose, or Draw…"

The Defense Pushes Hard and the Court Pushes Back. The day’s legal action began long before Judge Frederick Weisberg gaveled in the status hearing at 2:01pm.   The defense this week has filed a range of motions – one to have Judge Weisberg permanently attached to the case (Rule 106), one to exclude the “unsubstantiated charges” –...

The Kitchen Debate

The Smallest Part of the Defendant’s Story May Have Big Problems. Gazing into the confined black box that is 1509 Swann on August 2nd, 2006, there’s no detail too mundane that doesn’t deserve a second look.  We don’t presume guilt on anyone’s part…nor do we presume innocence.  But given the convoluted strands that come from...

Burn After Reading

Fahrenheit 1509 At midnight on the steamy evening of August 2, 2006, DC Police arrived at 1509 Swann Street to begin a murder investigation.   An investigation that supposedly continues to this day. On the floor of Dylan Ward’s bedroom they found an issue of the New Yorker opened to an article penned by the late John Updike entitled, “Late Works:...

It's A Date…

Two Weeks Before Robert Wone’s Murder… Three years ago this week, on or about July 19, 2006, Robert began making plans to stay the night at a friend’s house in Washington, DC.   Last month Paul Duggan wrote in the Washington Post: Earnest and meticulously efficient, Wone had planned about two weeks in advance to stay in...

For Sale:  History  Tasked with tracking a number of properties, the Real Estate Editor has the busiest job at wmrw.com.  Of course there’s the site of Robert’s murder, the previous home of the defendants, 1509  Swann Street; the 16th Street apartment they lived in after the murder and the McLean home in which they all share now.  There is the investment property portfolio too:  The Silver Spring condo ...

Search Tools

The Blogosfear WordPress stats are limited but one feature shows incoming Google searches. Paul Duggan’s Washington Post series and Tim Arango’s piece in the New York Times triggered all sorts of search terms we saw in the dashboard. In the wake of all that ink, searches for Victor Zaborsky outnumbered those for Price or Ward by a factor of two...

Gates Of Hell

About That ‘Intruder Theory’ In the early hours of August 3, 2006, the defendants were subjected to hours of interrogation at the MPD Violent Crime Branch in Anacostia;  a long way from the million dollar plus townhouse on Swann Street. Price for six hours, Zaborsky for eight and Ward sat through a ten hour marathon.  The Post’s...

Purpose of this Site

On August 2nd, 2006, Washington attorney Robert E. Wone was murdered at 1509 Swann Street. Over two years passed before any criminal charges were filed - and then only conspiracy, obstruction of justice and crime scene tampering charges were brought against the Swann Street housemates, all present in the home on the night of the murder: Joe Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky.

On May 17, 2010, a DC Superior Court trial got underway and all three defendants were all acquitted in that bench trial on those pending charges.

Nearly four years later, very little seems clear about what happened that night and who murdered Robert Wone. A cloud of suspicion remains over the Swann Street defendants who have denied any involvement in the murder of their friend or in the alleged cover up.

Judge Lynn Leibovitz found a moral certainty in their collective guilt, but not evidentiary certainty. Civil proceedings in a wrongful death suit filed by Robert's family is the next chapter in this tragic story.

We continue to work together seeking answers to the mystery of Robert Wone's murder and in finding justice for his memory and legacy.
