Spag: Backseat Driver?

Detective Waid’s Deposition

The consent motion for former DC Detective Bryan Waid to be deposed in Florida for the Wone civil case, was ordered by Judge Michael Ranking this week.

Robert Spagnoletti

Waid led the early  investigation and was on the scene at 1509 Swann Street on the night of Robert’s murder, and also managed a good portion of that evening’s interviews/interrogations of the defendants at Anacostia’s Violent Crimes Branch.  He testified on Day 11, Day 12 and Day 16 of the summer conspiracy and obstruction trial.

From an earlier post, when the motion was filed nearly a month ago:

“…MPD Detective Bryan Waid was the most sympathetic of the questioners on the morning of August 3rd.  He allowed long period of silences between his questions to Joe Price; allowing Price to give his unvarnished version of events from the previous evening.

He was not accusatory, the way Detective “Come-to-Jesus” Wagner was, nor was he disbelieving the way Detective Norris was.  Detective Waid went the good guy route;  seeking to get the full version of events according to Price.”

On the stand at the criminal trial, Detective Waid was the same calm, reassuring presence, but it was his testimony that was devastating.”

It’s a safe bet that the defense team is looking to poke holes in Waid’s procedues, his team, the theories he was developing and discarding as the investigation moved on, and certainly his summer testimony.

Without Bernie Grimm or Tom Connolly, does managing Waid’s testimony fall on Robert Spagnoletti’s shoulders?  He is after all, as best we can tell, the lone veteran of the criminal proceedings and more than the Maryland and Oregon defense attorneys, he has the institutional knowledge of the case and MPD work on it.  It still doesn’t appear that his boss, David Schertler, filed any notice of appearance

Did the Spag’s plans of being in the backseat of the civil case, which he announced at the September 16 status hearing, change?  Having such an experienced hand is good news for the defendants no doubt, but at Spagnotetti’s steep billing rates, it may be bad news for whoever is paying his freight.

Hey folks, your “contact us” links don’t work, but thought you might want to be alerted to “SwannToo” from DC who sounds a bit like one of the swan3some, perhaps you could speculate who it might be. He resorts to basic terrorism psy-op of declaring that the issue is not important,(like the guy who kept trying to keep it off wikipedia) highlighting the most spot-on people as villians, (the jews did it, no way muslims could have done 9/11) and painting himself as a “friend of Asians” (Israel is the enemy of America, remember the USS Liberty, Mossad did 9/11), and truth (as in 9/11 “truth”) and your site as being an enemy that discriminates against Asians. Contact me if you’d like me to be a more regular contributor.

This murder is old (it is 2011 now). Whoever keeps the wmrw.com website going are old too. Why are they still talking about the case when they have not had, or found, new evidences to talk about? Whey are they still keeping up with the analysis as if the murder took place yesterday? What are new theories that WhoMurderedRobertWone hasn’t found in 2006, and found it in 2011? I am so sick and tired of wmrw.com website that I have decided that the website IS NO LONGER RELEVANCE to this case.

On top of that, WhoMurderedRobertWone.com doesn’t even care of Robert or Kathy. The Editors of the website devote solely to promote themselves by publishing Robert’s death so called “fantasy investigation” just to keep their website going. They only keep the “regulars” bloggers and not accepting anyone else especially if you are Chinese, Asian, or someone “outside” their “regulars circle.” Don’t read that website. It has “no value” to anyone especially if you are a potential jurors, a happy and successful career people, a Chinese or Asian. Your time is wasted to read “old” stuff that pretend as if it is new. Lastly, wmrw.com does not understand you and the editors don’t care about you if you are Asian and simply just want to share your opinions on their website. They will count you out. Many bloggers told me.

Thank you for pointing this out. I would urge every Asian (or other ) American to keep tabs on Who Murdered Robert Wone as no other people are keeping tabs on this important justice issue, and continuing to seek who was responsible for the horrible death of Robert Wone and seek that the person(s) be properly convicted and punished.

SwannToo, are you related to mr swanst observer? Your IP says that you live in DC, the only other community besides Asians and LGBT that still care about this case. Sadly very few people on Asian Week are still interested in the Wone issue, it is indeed interesting that you are concerned about the agenda of WhoMurderedRobertWone.com who appear to be (justly) illuminating the role of the recently “cleared” defendents of Swann st but are still on the hook in the civil case. It is also interesting you claim to be looking out for the interest of the Asian community which you seem to have some interest in, as was one of the defendants. It would appear that anyone who is critical of WMRW’s agenda would be sympathetic to the defendants, which is an even smaller group of people. Anyways, thanks for reminding the Asian community to be vigilant and to speak out for justice, since nobody else is willing to stand up and stir up the community.

The Civil Trial is scheduled (ultimately) on 10/17/2011 (it’s 2011 folks). AsianWeek should follow this trial on this site rather than letting wmrw.com “brainwashing” readers on this case as it will “change the dynamics” of the outcome. Readers have the right to make up their mind on what and who to to believe, and not by the influence of WhoMurderedRobertWone.com. I am for the “truth,” the “facts,” and not by the WhoMurderedRobertWone.com influence.

To: Arthur Hu – I wish to read your follow up article on Robert Wone case on this site too. It will give me different perspective from WhoMurderedRobertWone.com website as I and many of my friends found out that the wmrw.com does not accept opinions of Asian bloggers. I find it very strange as Robert is Asian/American who was killed in a white, gay, men house. The wmrw.com website only keeps “regular” bloggers and “does not accept outsiders.”

Wow, too many topics to keep track of, and I’m sick and tired of being miles ahead of anybody else and trying to scream “Will anybody pay attention and put a stop to this stupidity” when nobody notices, and the only people who notice are the bad guys who are out to stop you, and by the time everybody does figure it out ten years later, I’m long forgotten.

At least this appears to be the one topic where other authors have noted my viewpoint in other blogs. It takes more than one guy to stand up and speak up against evil. So consider this page to be the unofficial Asian Week blog on Wone, and please, please post updates here. I never noticed an anti-Asian slant to who killed RW, and they were happy to post the last major piece that I did that other people took notice of.

There are some topics like Air India 182, Fort Hood Nidal Hassan, South Philadelphia High, and the whole crowd of people of a certain protected group that helped out the 9/11 hijackers where the government appears to be determined to ignore and protect the obvious bad guys. My God, even after the Senate Committee has practiaclly flogged the Army and FBI for letting Islamic radicalism and terrorism off the hook for Fort Hood, they still have not made any official determination that Fort Hood had anything to do with Anwar Al Awlawki (who inexplicably is STILL redacted from the Senate document, proving that somebody very, very high is still trying to protect both him and Hasan) and radical jihad. Political correctness is in control all the way to the POTUS, but people must make a stand.

We have a problem when political correctness dictates that we ONLY look into crimes committed by one group (dominate straight white christian men) against other groups. Yes, it is wrong to assume that someone is guilty of a crime simply because of their background. But it is even more wrong to let someone off who is obviously guilty on the basis of pages and pages of evidence and testimony BEYOND their background just because they are protected group, and prosecuting this person would serve to reinforce a stereotype that is true at least once in a while. Nothing wrong with being a Palestinean muslim who supports America and its allies. But he’s talking and promoting Awlaki and Al Queda, the group protection must come off. Nothing wrong with being the third guy in a nontraditional family, but when his personal collection is a shop of horrors and is missing the one knife that matches the one at the crime, it doesn’t matter whose stereotype is getting gored.

I can’t imagine any of the Swann St. three or even any their associates (including Michael) deploying those particular grammatical errors to try to express themselves but they certainly do look familiar. Familiar as in bearing striking resemblance to the syntax of the postings of a certain … um shall we say … clamorous and discordant participant of this very blog. Hummmm…

We may all be thinking of different people. Not gonna name names, but my own personal pick(s), on the basis of a high level of self absorption and instability (that seemed to rise and fall in almost predictable cycles) can be found as poster(s) at “La Divina” (January 12, 2011), as the “relationship” with wmrw was unravelling. There were many other, more evocative, postings, but it appears that the editors have since deleted those which carried the most “invective” (hint).

WOW! I’ve not posted or visited WMRW for nearly nine months. Hello to Bea, Gloria and others I remember. Lately I’ve been dodging IED’s, ducking for cover and playing adult hide and seek trying to flee back to the March 2011 Divided States Of America.
( Madison, Wisconsin or Cairo?).

I haven’t a clue if the posts from SwannToo and awarthurhy are relevant or just provocative.

SwannToo writes “Why are they still talking about the case when they have not had, or found, new evidences to talk about?”
Following that line of thinking, all unsolved violent crime should be shelved, never pursued, and certainly not using the
“holy grail” DNA analysis.

DNA evidence and analysis has solved old cold-cases. I’m thrilled when the analysis exonerates the long term convicted.
THERE IS NO END TO THE PURSUIT OF JUSTICE.

By the way, Has 1509 Swann St. sold? I’m looking for a “safe house” for covert Libyan operative. Never mind, I remember this house is not too safe.

Hi Pete,

You are right re DNA evidence, etc. I think some of the first people exonerated by DNA evidence had been in jail for years and years.
Cold case is likely a term originated by police but I imagine that for the family, friends and others affiliated with those who have been victims of crime, no “case” ever goes “cold.” Until the perpetrators of the crimes are convicted and brought to justice, the case remains ever “OPEN.”

Wow. My spouse makes fun of me for spending time following a site devoted to the five year old cold case of the murder of a person who was a complete stranger to me. I can only imagine the jokes I’d hear if I spent my time following a site devoted to bashing a site devoted to the five year old cold case of the murder of a person who was a complete stranger to me. . . Seriously, if its not the Defendants or one of their confidants, they really need to “get a life.”

If I were one of the 3 I would have an odd fascination with the site and check periodically on what was being written–especially, after someone compared one to Ms. Celie from color purple for allowing my man’s mistress to stay under the same roof.

Of the 3, who would be the most likely to lurk on this site? Given the stance that all publicity is good publicity, I would think it would be Culuket. Accordingly, Victor may be just too old and tired to care anymore, and Dyl may have way too many outcalls from nursing homes in Dade County.

No because of the Ms.Celie comparison, I would guess Vic would be all over this site-. He thought he had found his blond prince and became instead a visual of a nonemancipated Ms. Celie in the color purple. Now that’s a slap in the face similar to the one Richard Hatch gave Cassidy on celebrity apprentice.. Then again if we have just sheer narcissist card then maybe imho Price may take a peek here

I don’t think that poster above is one of the Swann residents. I think most of us know it might be a person who formerly posted here.

Re the three looking into this site, there’s probably no question that their attys are having their assistants check into the site and periodically probably check in themselves. I’d imagine, based on what I’ve read here and my little peek in the courtroom that of the three, JP couldn’t help himself from checking in. He seems like a fingers into the pie kind o’ guy.

Spag was the best lawyer in the first trial, and one could understand why Joe would want him as “backseat driver” in a variety of ways. Yet, why would Spag take on a greater role in a trial that may be costly to his political career? Does he need the money that much for, perhaps, yet more jewelry and furs? It does boggle the mind.

If Detective Waid has moved to southwestern Florida, then who are the specific MPD or private detectives working the “very active” case at this juncture? And, Editors, what ever did happen with that late night comedy team: Norris & Wagner? Was their variety show canceled involuntarily and, if so, why?

Does “very active” really mean surfing the Web and eventually lurking here? One does wonder, Chief Lanier.

Can someone fill me in on what has been going-on vis-a-vis this site and confidentiality? Not that I ever believed in it, or counted on it. Because after living on Swann Street for 15 years I was treated to seeing someone being carried out in a body-bag one night. So I had a deep sense that surreality would embrace every aspect of this case. Those three creeps can go to hell for all I care, but I was still surprised to find my email spread around the internet in connection with certain postings I made on this site. not that I regret one of them. And some seem misattributed by apparent complex computer snafu, but not all, that is the point. Anyways, as Nietzsche said, “All great spirits need a mask.” I am not sure how “great” my spirit was when posting such commentaries, particularly since they happened in the cocktail (wine) hour, but still it was useful to have the “mask” of a screen name.. In a way it was all a variation on a theme. Namely, there have always been a certain number of creeps in the neighborhood, and the only way to deal with them is directly, to call them out. I hope to never cross paths with the defendants, but if I do, I will calmly tell them what total disasters of humanity they are. And what damage they have done to the local gay community, along with their creepy friends who defended them, who make me sick. I would simply like to know what happened, in the revelation of the emails.. I have not been following the whole matter for some time. Please fill me in.
