Sounds Of Silence

Dylan Ward’s Eerily Quiet Deposition On November 10, a meeting room at the Pennsylvania Avenue law offices of Covington and Burling quickly filled up with people for a deposition in an impending civil suit.  If a meeting like this had happened five years ago, one of those people in the room could very well have been...

Friends And Family

Set Another Place at the Table In Harry Jaffe’s treatise, we’re told that Eric Holder gave Robert’s close friend Jason Torchinsky “…the sense that Robert Wone was considered part of the Covington family…”  and that the law firm would represent the Wone family in every way possible.  So far that has proven to be the case. That family...

Talk The Talk

Giving Voice to the First Amendment It’s been over a month since the defense filed their  motion to Enjoin Legal Counsel From Making Extrajudicial Statements regarding Litigation, AKA the gag order. Two weeks after that filing, the plaintiffs fired back with their opposition, which was then followed by one on behalf of the Media Intervenors, of which we...

…and the Shortest Filing Ever, So Far. We’re heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, and just in time comes something to be thankful for: the briefest filing we’ve yet seen in what looks like actual progress.  Namely, and we quote in its entirety: “Plaintiff Estate of Robert E. Wone, through its attorneys, submits this praecipe to withdraw...

Oops!

Second Time is the Charm? Just 48 hours after the defense team filed their Response to the Motion to Intervene, they asked for a do-over. To correct the missteps and record, in the accompanying Praecipe they write to, ”inform the Court that an earlier draft of the above named Defendants’ Response to Media Intervenor’s Motion to Intervene was...

Ink Fight?

Two Birds, One Response In the just filed Defense Response to Motion to Intervene, Victor Zaborsky’s counsel Sean Edwards takes the opportunity to respond to both the media’s motion from November 2, and Covington’s Opposition that was entered on October 27. On page four of the defense motion, the defense distills their basic argument: “Here, Defendants merely...

Protective Services

But Who’s Being Protected…And From What? It’s rare in this case for any matter not to provoke a legal fight.  We imagine more than one luxury vacation has been financed by challenges and filings and such on both sides of the courtroom. Thus it was something of a surprise to see late last week Judge Brook...

Kathy Wone Goes on Record On page 2 of the latest plaintiff’s filing, Covington’s Ben Razi noted that since oral argument had not been scheduled on the defense motion to dismiss, his document may have to suffice.   He may have spoke too soon; a status hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 8, that in all...

Going To The Chappelle

Kathy Wone’s “Misguided Complaint” In Round Three of the statute of limitations (SOL) argument, the defense has filed their Reply Memorandum of Point and Authorities in Support of Motion to Dismiss Counts One, Three and Four (or in the alternative) Motion for Partial Summary Judgment. At the center of this may be the interpretation of Chappelle...

Covington Returns Fire on Motion to Dismiss It took a while but the plaintiffs have finally responded to the  Defendants’ Joint Motion to Dismiss Counts One, Three and Four, or in the Alternative, for Summary Judgment as to Counts One, Three and Four of Plaintiff’s Complaint, which was filed on October 5. Purpose of this Site

On August 2nd, 2006, Washington attorney Robert E. Wone was murdered at 1509 Swann Street. Over two years passed before any criminal charges were filed - and then only conspiracy, obstruction of justice and crime scene tampering charges were brought against the Swann Street housemates, all present in the home on the night of the murder: Joe Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky.

On May 17, 2010, a DC Superior Court trial got underway and all three defendants were all acquitted in that bench trial on those pending charges.

Nearly four years later, very little seems clear about what happened that night and who murdered Robert Wone. A cloud of suspicion remains over the Swann Street defendants who have denied any involvement in the murder of their friend or in the alleged cover up.

Judge Lynn Leibovitz found a moral certainty in their collective guilt, but not evidentiary certainty. Civil proceedings in a wrongful death suit filed by Robert's family is the next chapter in this tragic story.

We continue to work together seeking answers to the mystery of Robert Wone's murder and in finding justice for his memory and legacy.
