Mark Zuckerberg Doesn’t Believe in Privacy

Social Media & Privacy

Last week, a Facebook employee revealed – in an “off record chat” with New York Times reporter Nick Bilton, that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t believe in privacy.

Congressmen, social media experts and news analysts all pounced.  After all, Zuckerberg heads up the largest social media network, and this should scare anyone with a Facebook account — and that encompasses just about everyone reading this blog now.

We should all hope that common sense would dictate not revealing anything personal that one would not want the entire world to see.  After all, our online privacy is managed and dictated by those who profit from our personal information.

The amount of personal information made public by an individual often depends on that individual’s life circumstances.   Newlyweds share their happiness through their social media outlets.   Singles seek companionship or romance through dating and hook-up sites.   But if one’s circumstances involve adverse legal or business matters, keeping the online presence mainstream or discreet is indicated.

Joe Price and many of those in his orbit have exposed very personal details in the social media, notably for a family whose current life circumstances would be considered less than socially comfortable at this point in time.  Yet Culuket’s profile, Michael the Masseur in Miami, and eyecandydvds.com, to name a few revealing activities, were easily found using everyday search engines.

Today we add one more reveal to the list…after the jump.

The lack of discretion of those in the Joe Price orbit doesn’t reflect well on his skill as an intellectual property attorney.   Given that Joe, Dylan and Victor had the murder of a friend occur in their home, that they and brother Michael Price are persons of interest in an ongoing crime investigation, and that the Trouple soon goes to trial on felony charges, are the online revelations celebrity-seeking…or just lack of common sense?

In this vein, the Manhunt profile of the “twin star” brother of Joe, Michael Price, recently surfaced. Michael’s interests are much the same as Joe’s, something that could promote brotherly bonding.  Then again, Michael may just be following Joe’s lead, disclosing personal details without concern for his current life circumstances.

I wonder if Michael has ever “employed” the services of Dylan. Or shared playtime with big brother. The possible dynamics of these relationships never cease to disgust me.

For something that ‘disgusts’ you, you sure seem to spend a lot of time pondering it. And commenting on it. And expressing your disgust. Rinse and repeat.

What I am wondering is in what world that America’s Most Wanted style bug-eyed meth-face profile photo could be even hoped to reel in the guys and in what world Michael’s build could be called “average”?

Hmmm. I’m torn on this posting.

Michael Price — although not a major player in the Robert Wone murder — has been involved … indirectly with the whole thing, including robbing Joe Price’s Swann Street house days after Wone was murdered. (Which I always thought was … weird).

Meth is an ugly addiction, and I hope Michael is on the road to recovery.

I’m a little surprised to see his picture and Manhunt profile displayed here. I’m still processing this.

Seems the prosecution is looking more closely at Michael Price. Why shouldn’t we?

The weakest link in this case isn’t Victor. Rather, its the close friends of Sarah Lee cupcake, the housemate of Michael, and also Michael’s drug buddy.

I think you’re right, John – and don’t forget W-5. I suspect that the Newswoman Lisa may be the ace in the hole for the prosecution. She likely heard the trouple (or at least Joe) say many, many things the night and days after picking them up in Anacostia. Doesn’t it reek of a major segment on 60 Minutes or 20/20 – “When One Friend Kills Another – Caught in the Middle” or some such thing?

If she does have bad things to say about Joe (or just tells what she knows in an honest, open way, regardless her feelings toward Joe) the jury will likely afford her a high level of credibility (rightly or wrongly). Here’s to hoping Lisa is an honest woman.

Has that been established Bea? W-5 is a CNN reporter?

Whoa, there Nelly, that post doesn’t establish that Lisa Desjardines is W-5. I’m not aware of that having been established at all; though it is known that she was there in the morning to get Joe (even waiting for him while he did his second interview ~ and holding his watch and wallet) and that she was at Cosi.

I’m sorry, my mistake. I beg your pardon. I knew that it had been established that the Lisa who picked them up from jail was the CNN reporter.

Let me say a little more. If you click on the link in that comment ( http://www.cnn.com/CNN/anchors_reporters/desjardins.lisa.html ), it profiles Lisa Desjardins, but in the profile it says she is formerly Lisa Goddard. In the Tool Time post, it says that Lisa Goddard is named as a possible witness to be called by the prosecution. Apparently she spoke at Wone’s funeral and “shouted out” to Joe Price in the speech. Ooops!

Lisa Dejardins is Lisa Goddard, who was Joe Price’s immediate successor as President of the W&M Student Association. Rob served as Lisa’s “chief of staff” in the student government and the three of them were all friends.

If Lisa believes that Joe was involved with Robert’s death and she knows any facts that would shed light on that, I have no doubt that she will testify truthfully as to those facts.

Lisa probably knows who did it, and her friends in the media are making sure that that fact does not get out. Even Mr. Jaffe did not mention the Lisa angle.

Bea, don’t take back one lemony bit about the sorry state of “journalism” in this country! Usually, modern media outlets want their reporters and presenters to become the story or to become part of the story for infotainment. That is, unless the story involves gay BDSM, drug use, and/or murder most foul.

Sorry, I know all of this, and I hope the dots connect in the way that makes sense; but I am still not enlightened as to whether Lisa Goddard/Desjardines is W-5. That’s all I meant to say.

Apparently I did not need to know this – I didn’t THINK ‘pig play’ would be something I’d just not discovered but might like, but I try to keep an open mind. I don’t know which of the two definitions is worse.

Lots of folks, including the police, have considered whether or not Michael Price may had had a role in this crime. According to Washington Post reporter Paul Duggan, Michael Price’s partner provided an alibi.

However, one of the many weird aspects of this case was that it appears that the person who first flagged Michael Price to the police may have been–Joe Price. During the recorded portion of his interrogation, Joe Price was never asked about his brother, but he introduced his brother three times:

In response to a question about Dylan Ward’s medication, he said that Mr. Ward took Lexipro and Wellbutrin. Then he continued (p.34)

“Look, I got a brother who’s HIV positive, he’s been positive for ten years. He takes Lexipro and Welbutrin.”

He then went to list other friends who were on the same drugs–the point being, I guess, that there was nothing special about Mr. Ward’s presciptions.

Later, Joe Price was asked if he was capable of violence (p. 72):

“No, No. thank god. No. Are you kidding me? My gay brother beat the shit out of me, you know, for however many years. I mean, it was an ongoing family–my younger gay brother, mind you. No, I’m not violent.”

The point being, I guess, that Joseph Price wasn’t violent, but his brother…

Finally, in the second section, Joe Price is discussing the behavior of burglers, and he interjects (part 2, p. 21):

I’m like [indiscernable] is a great guy. He’s a recovering alcoholic, been positive for ten years. Fucked around with all kinds of drugs and has put me through the wringer a few times–and I’m like–you know, would disappear with the car, the TV, you know, literally take his own car and give it to his drug dealer to get drugs, you know. I mean, so I believe that anything is possible like that, but I also believe–I know this from Michael, my brother, you want something to pawn for drugs, you know, whatever it is you need, quick cash, your going to take the stereo and things, something.”

The police might conclude that that Joe’s brother the (violent) junkie would do anything for drugs when he was using.

I agree with Bea’s view that it would make no sense for Joe Price to call attention to his brother if Michael Price was actually involved. This argument also applies to the burglary. It would be a pretty high risk move for Joe to accuse Michael of burglary if Michael could convict Joe of murder.

OTOH, it doesn’t make any sense (to me) for Joe Price to make such a half-hearted effort to throw his brother under the bus if he was uninvolved. If Joe had really wanted to implicate his brother, he could have let slip that Michael had a key–but he didn’t, as far as we know.

So, I’m baffled. Is Joe Price “just an idiot,” or is he trying to frame his brother, or is it part of a larger “make sure everybody is a suspect” ploy? None of these explanations are really satisfactory.

Michael is much better-looking in his glamour shot for Manhunt than in that cameo coming-out-of-the-courthouse clip. His hair, though, needs some work: either shave it off, dear, or get a good rug. I wonder why he only does outcalls, but I am glad that he is honest about both his kinky preferences and HIV status. Any more openness like this, Bernie, and YOUR client is toast!

What happened during their childhood to make both Culuket and Michael into pig play? Yet, given this profile, I could see Mikey beating up Joe now, and, even though both Price brothers are/were primarily bottoms, I suspect Michael was/is the more “versatile” of the two. Was Mikey part of the sexual trouple, as Vicki completed the financial and emotional triumvirate? Maybe.

Everything in life is relative. One might suggest that Dianne Ward crapped all over the bed of motherhood and parenting; and then along comes Mama Price.

Bravo, Dianne. And best of luck in the next few weeks.

I saw someone mention in a comment that the Ward parents are teabaggers? Is that true? Where can I read about them? (haven’t read the Washingtonian article yet, on the Left Coast, waiting for it to show up on the web)

A Diane Ward in Tacoma is listed as a John McCain contributor in 2008, while Dyl and Joe gave generously to the Hillary Clinton campaign that same year. Thus, Team Price is remarkably bipartisan and moderate; Joe’s moderately racist aside that evening may even explain in part his support for Hillary over Barack.

If (and that is a big if) that Diane of Tacoma, McCain contributor, is the mother of Dyl, the Wards, I guess, are establishment Republicans, who use (and are used by) the Tea Parties for their own agendas. BTW, Ward is an Anglicized name covering over Eastern European roots. Thanks, Nelly, for that info. Cream and sugar, anyone?

Very poor judgment on the editors in using Michael’s online profile to discredit the defendants and, in the process, Michael too. Michael is NOT a defendant in this case and his use of “social media” for personal purposes says absolutely nothing of relevance about the defendants, about the case, about the charges, or about the evidence. Nor does it say anything about Joe’s “skill as an intellectual property attorney.” The fact you may have discovered this little nugget of sex-fueled gossip to keep your readers entertained until you have something more relevant to report (and you have reported on plenty of other legitimate stuff) does not make it relevant to the case, and more to the point, to your stated mission “in finding justice for the memory of Robert Wone.” So, it is no surprise this post elicited gems like: “I wonder if Michael has ever “employed” the services of Dylan,” “What I am wondering is in what world that America’s Most Wanted style bug-eyed meth-face profile photo could be even hoped to reel in the guys,” and what constitutes “pig play.” Not very responsible. Leave this guy alone, for Christ’s sake.

Kim, give my love to the children and Aunt Marcia; these proceedings must be especially hard for them to bear. As for Uncle Mike, he and Papa Joe apparently share unconventional intimate tastes that unfortunately do pertain to the case at hand. So, when the younger Price proudly proclaims to the world a preference for “pig play”, his fellow citizens may want to know that fact.

Pope Benedict also recently chided critics for peddling “petty gossip” and, of course, one only wishes that weblogs for those kinds of revelations existed a generation ago. Ciao, Clio.

Michael had a key to 1509 Swann Street and missed his phlebotomy class for the first time the evening that Robert was found dead with numerous injection marks on his body. He also confessed to a role in burglarizing 1509 in the fall after the murder, a burglarly that the three defendants did not immediately report beacuse they suspected Michael was involved.

This profile, published by Michael after all, confirms that Michael shared certain interests with his brother that some suspect may have played a role in what happened on August 2. Its posting here is probative and legitimate. The fact that it was still available when he appears to be under renewed scrutiny from the prosecution does call his judgment into question.

I do not see any reason why Michael should be left alone any more than the three defendants, Sarah Morgan or others who may know more than they are saying.
