Court Jester

Bernie Grimm’s High Q Score

Joe Price’s defense attorney Bernie Grimm is considered by colleagues as one of the “great courtroom showmen.”   But his performances extend well beyond the courthouse and into millions of homes.

As reported here, Bernie appeared off his game at the May 22 status hearing, less a showman and more a showstopper.  Confusion over discovery documents between he and Zaborsky’s counsel Thomas Connolly forced Judge Weisberg to call for a break that sent the four defense attorneys scurrying to the hallway so they could all get on the same page.  To be a fly on the courthouse wall….

A friend of Greta van Susteren for 30 years, Bernie is seen regularly on her program as a panelist.  We assume that her familiarity with the Wone case is due to that long term association.  Can we also assume confidentiality agreements prohibit him from speaking in detail with her about it?  Law jocks, you tell us.

Greta writes about him often on her Foxnews.com gretawire blog and was the first to break the news in November 2007 that Bernie had signed on with Cozen O’Connor, leaving private practice after nearly 20 years.

Mike the Cat

Mike the Cat

Amusing stories, tidbits and behind the scene videos with Bernie are pretty commonplace.

In a September 2007 post Greta wrote about her cat Mike and the fact that one of her viewers thought the fuzzy feline bore a striking resemblance to Bernie.  Meow.

Want a tour of Bernie’s office at Cozen?  A picture of him in a baseball uniform?  News of him dancing shirtless on top of a bar in St. Croix?  Greta has the scoop.

Bernie’s reaction to the cat comparison?  We report, you decide.

Shortly after Bernie moved his tack to Cozen, Greta was given a behind the scenes tour of his new office.   One change from being a sole practitioner?  More suits, less jeans, but the same messy desk drawer I bet.

Last February Bernie was on vacation in St. Croix and sent Greta this email:

Greta – Wondering if ratings are off since I’m not there to prop Ted up.  Just wondering.   All is good here 80 and sunny. Tell my fans that I miss them.  Have my shirt off and dancing on the bar!

As an indicator of his popularity with the Fox News Channel viewers, that gretawire post garnered over 100 comments.  Jealous?  You bet we are.

But it’s not just on Fox that Bernie gets his share of  favorable publicity.  The Washington Post’s Reliable Source had this item from 2005 on parking issue he had.  Something any DC resident can identify with.

D.C. defense attorney Bernie Grimm has a gig on Greta Van Susteren’s Fox legal-affairs show.   He has a perennial berth on Washingtonian‘s “top lawyers” list.   And he has one sweet parking spot!

Our Superior Court spies repeatedly saw the navy blue Ford Explorer driven by the self-assured Ron Howard-lookalike parked in the no man’s land where Indiana and D streets NW merge. Just steps from the courthouse, it beats paying $16 garage fees or jockeying for the scarce metered spots on the block.  Hey, wouldn’t you?

The lawyer has a police shirt on the dash, but we don’t think “Justitia Omnibus” is Latin for “Park Anywhere.”

Bernie Grimm: seen regularly on the Fox News Channel or catch his matinée performance in  U.S. v. Price, Ward and Zaborsky on Friday September 11th in the Moultrie Courthouse, the date for the next status hearing in this case.

Just wondering. What point (if any) are you trying to make.

I think the point was to give more background info on Grimm and his relationship with Van Sustren. I didn’t know he was such a television bigwig, probably because I don’t watch FOX news. Their friendship could also be a reason why Van Sustren won’t cover the Wone case. >:(

Craig, in all fondness. I think you are a bit off your game here and should quickly reset this thread and start over.

That’s questionable. If not illegal. Impersonating an officer?

Confidentiality is a requirement for lawyers. No confidentiality agreement is necessary because confidentiality is one element of the ethical rules that apply to all lawyers. In DC, it’s covered by section 1.6 of the Rules of Professional Conduct, available here: http://www.dcbar.org/new_rules/rules.cfm

I know Bernie well and he is an incredible lawyer albeit expensive! And now that he is with a large firm I can imagine he is getting $700++ an hour. He knows exactly what he is doing in the courtroom and also knows all the players very well. They respect him and he uses that in his favor. This is no white collar case, this is a case of murder and is exactly what made him so famous. The only negative about Bernie is that he thinks way to much of himself and at times he comes before anyone else including his clients.

Damn – Those vids were priceless too, pardon the pun.

Bernie in full form, engaging and as charming as ever.

Maybe a call into Greta’s office is in the offing.

Could you imagine Thurgood Marshall or even Clarence Darrow sending that type of letter from St. Croix to a newspaper columnist of their day? We really have dumbed down deviance, as per the warning of Daniel Patrick Moynihan late in the last century.
