Mrs. Kramer vs Mrs. Kramer — Newsweek article

In the December 15, 2008 edition of Newsweek, the magazine runs a major article about a child custody case between two lesbians, one of which claims not to be gay anymore.  Wone case defendant Joe Price currently represents Janet Jenkins, who is still a lesbian.  The case is in the state courts of Virginia.  Joe Price knows a lot about family law in Virginia having served as General Counsel of Equality Virginia, a statewide GLBT advocacy organization.

Just reading various posts over from the beginning to help me get some things organized in my mind and I re-read this.

First of all Janet Jenkins must be insane to have Joe working on her behalf on such an explosive case where the other party is essentially calling homosexuals deranged. Even if she does not believe that he had anything to do with this crime (which presumably is what she thinks given that she is having him represent her) just having a homosexual man accused of a sexually based murder even in the same breathing space is crazy given what she is trying to accomplish.

And Joe, the hubris of thinking that he can competently represent this woman while himself under indictment is just bizarre. I am amazed that Newsweek didn’t mention it.

Truly, the mind reels.

I totally agree with AnnaZed above. Why didn’t Newsweek mention anything about the Wone murder last December? By the time that article appeared, Joe Price had already become a “defendant.”

Is Joe still representing Janet Jenkins? If so, she must be as crazy as her ex-gay ex-partner. Ex marks the spot!

Exactly. So much for Joe and Victor putting themselves out as poster boys for the gay cause. They have only provided fodder for anti-gay people.

In the New York Times piece above re this ongoing, never-ending custody saga, Joe is not mentioned at all. Compare and contrast that absence with the 2008 Newsweek piece. Fascinating!

She wisely dropped him when she learned of his troubles. He should never have taken this case.
